This is the second in a series of video sessions to study collaboratively with colleagues while exploring Marie Clay’s guidance. Following “Building Independence in Reading,” this session focuses on “Building Independence in Writing.”
All sessions in this series—appropriate for training classes and for ongoing professional development—will draw from the second edition of Literacy Lessons Designed for Individuals for guidance. (Book must be purchased separately.)
You will explore opportunities for building independence in writing beginning with Roaming Around the Known, followed by supporting each child when
composing written messages,
supporting strategic processes for writing the message,
assembling cut-up stories/messages,
working with words, and
using your records for evidence of independence over time.
Participants are invited to
• read selected sections of Literacy Lessons that focus on independence in writing,
• take time to discuss or think about selected issues with colleagues,
• view illustrative video clips, and
• consider change over time in building independent processing in writing.
